Welcome

Are you interested in medicine in developing countries or wilderness environments? Do you want to learn how to tackle simple medical procedures in the field without much kit? Are you thinking of planning an elective in the back of beyond? Ever considered yourself a "wild medic"? You've come to the right Society!

Wilderness Medicine is concerned with using basic medical skills in the filed without access to lots of technology. It covers any aspect of medicine where there is no hospital backup. Diving, climbing and urban incidents, emergency & prehospital medicine, disaster relief and conflict medicine, tropical, desert, mountain & polar environments....these are just a few of the topics we're interested in!

We organise events throughout the year including talks, wilderness & emergency medicine training courses, workshops and trips away, as well as expeditions.

Membership costs £5 for the year. For that you get free entry to all our lectures (£1 otherwise) and club membership of the Royal Geographical Society (www.rgs.org) with access to their acclaimed Monday night lecture series, a chance to read the monthly Geographical Magazine and use of their facilities. If you're interested in going to the RGS please email our President for more info.

We also have close links with other London societies, both wilderness and emergency; our members are entitled to go to their talks and vice versa.

Have a look round our website for details of previous activities, come along to our next event or email to find out more. All are welcome, no matter if you've never heard of wilderness medicine before or are indeed a hardened expeditioner!
